SUBJECT: CERAMICS YEAR 7

THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  • Wedge clay for use
  • Use proper joining and construction techniques
  • Understand the nature of ceramics and the creative process
  • Develop an understanding of glaze, its function and be able to glaze
  • Develop an understanding of primitive firing techniques
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment

  • Pinch pot construction
  • Slab construction
  • Coil construction
  • Combination

SUBJECT: CERAMICS YEAR 8

THE PURPOSE OF THIS COURSE:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  • Use proper joining and construction techniques
  • Produce work on a larger scale and more refined than Year 7
  • Develop an understanding of how clay is used in society for domestic and industrial use
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Learn the techniques involved in wheel work
  • Surface decoration
  • Special glazing effects


THE CONTENT OF THE COURSE:
The course is for a duration of one semester:

  • Pinch pot construction
  • Slab construction
  • Coil construction
  • Combination
  • Wheel work
