SUBJECT: TECHNOLOGY - Information Information Technology is taught formally as an elective in year 10 and as VCE subjects in years 11 & 12. Year 11 IT (units 1 and 2) introduces a wide range of topics in which students learn about information technology and how it is used in today's society. Students learn to solve problems with the use of applications such as Word, Excel, Access and Power Point, other programs such has Visual Basic, Dream Weaver, Photoshop and Illustrator. These programs can also introduce a variety of different material to extend students with industry standard applications.
In year 12 there are two areas of study that the students may study, these are Information Processing and Management and Information Systems.
Information Processing and Management looks at how information is used and how that information travels from one person to the next. It looks at who and how that information can affect the people who receive it or produce it. The course also looks at the social, economical and technical ramifications of the incorrect use of such information. Students produce samples of work that reflect this understanding in a variety of tasks.
Information Systems is also a study of information but from an analysers point of view. Students are required to solve and produce solutions to information problems that revolve around how data travels from one point to the next in a system, how to design an interface for a database or develop a program that will improve that way a piece of information. How good design and planning can be used to produce an outcome for a component of an information system. It looks at more technical aspects of System Technology rather than the application side.
Information Technology is an integral part of our lives. This school integrates the use an understanding of that technology across the curriculum. In years 7 through to 9 it is part of everyday learning, students have access to computers in nearly every classroom and have an opportunity to use that technology at every opportunity. |
