The August Big Band Boogie!

Thursday August 21 saw Northcote HS celebrate The Big Band Boogie event. What an entertaining evening... with guest schools Prince’s Hill SC and De La Salle College all joining us for the night. Performing from Northcote HS were the Senior Stage Band, the Junior Stage Band, the Jazz Choir, Jazz Ensemble and the Production Band.

2008 annual visit by our Chinese sister school

21 students and teachers from Huaibei Number One High School arrived in mid-August for a one week exchange visit to Northcote High School. The students are photographed with some Australian hosts on our front lawn, beneath the Australian and Chinese flags, flown in their honour. Staff and students were involved in a number of activities, inluding classroom visits, a trip to the sea and finding gold at Sovereign Hill (below right)

Yr 7 Girls Soccer head to the State Finals!

Led by Captain Maneesha Patterson, our Yr 7 Girls Soccer team have won Zone level finals. They now head on to State level. Good luck, girls! Two other NHS teams also head to state finals - more news soon!

2009 Italian Study Tour

Once again the LOTE department will be offering a study tour to Italy, this time scheduled for September 2009. An information evening was offered on Wednesday August 13th, but if you missed it and need further details, contact Ms Fattore at the school.

NETAlert - Internet Safety and Your Children:  A presentation for Parents not to be missed

Young people are spending increasing amounts of time online and are at the forefront in adopting new ways of communication online.

This presentation addresses online activities and behaviours of young people and the risks they face on the internet.

Outstanding VCE Results for 2007

December 17th saw the release of VCE results for 2007. For our Year 12, the highest ENTER score achieved was 99.5. For those who like statistics, 9% of study scores were 40+ (or "A+ study scores"). 18% of our students earned an ENTER of 90 or above and over 38% of students earned an ENTER of 80 or above. Two students achieved "perfect study scores" of 50 - in Philosophy and Macedonian. 176 students sat for the VCE at Northcote High School in 2007. Congratulations to all our students!!

Principal attends Federal Government's "2020 Summit"

Gail Davidson, Principal of Northcote High School, recently attended the Federal Government's 2020 Summit in Canberra. She was the only Principal from a Government school in Victoria to be invited. Click here for more details of the summit. This is a great honour for the school, and a testament to Gail's outstanding leadership. She was nominated by the University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor, Professor Glyn Davis.

Record levels of Tertiary Pathways for the Year 12 of 2007

For the Yr 12 of 2007, a record 95% of Northcote’s VCE cohort who applied for tertiary places received a "first round offer" in January 2008. The breakdown of University and TAFE offers was

The breakdown of tertiary courses has remained remarkably constant over the last four years, with RMIT and the University of Melbourne still the two most favoured tertiary course providers, followed by La Trobe University, RMIT TAFE and NMIT. The following figures are for first round offers:
