Chào mừng đến với chương trình học sinh quốc tế của trường trung học Northcote
As one of the first schools accredited by the Department of Education to take international students, Northcote High School has successfully developed a comprehensive program to provide opportunities for students to improve their English language skills, prepare for university entrance, improve career opportunities and share the richness of their own culture.
Our international students are from all over the world, including China, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, Japan, Laos, Taiwan, Iran, Burma, Cambodia and Bangladesh.
Northcote High School offers an intensive English Language course over 20 weeks in Semester two (starting in July) to students who need this intensive training to prepare for enrolment into the mainstream cohort at the school. In 2021 this may be taught remotely dependent upon government travel restriction.
We are proud of our international students’ accomplishments and achievements, as well as the connections and support we offer them. See international student alumni to find out more about the success of our international students.
Local environment
Northcote High School is situated at the southern end of the City of Darebin, on St Georges Road, Northcote. A tram service operates from the front of the school and the train station is a five-minute walk away. The location of the school is a drawcard for many families considering enrolment.
Northcote is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, 6 kilometres northeast of Melbourne’s Central Business District. It is a suburb with a village vibe, where older Greek and Italian residents live alongside artists, musicians and young families.
It’s a hub for live music, with regular shows at local venues including the Northcote Social Club and the intimate Uniting Church. Innovative eateries and bars, plus shops selling designer goods, line High Street and spread into neighbouring Thornbury. The Westgarth Cinema screens movies in art deco surrounds.
Northcote also offers a wide variety of recreation facilities and sports clubs for residents and visitors to enjoy, catering to all interests.
Strong support for international students
We have a strong focus on developing agency and leadership in our students to prepare them for success in the next stage of their learning journey beyond Northcote High School.
Our International Student Program is well integrated into the broader school community and provides strong support and guidance. Our teachers are committed professionals who are experienced, enthusiastic, caring and supportive, aiming to be positive role models for students in lifelong learning.
Students participate in an intensive English as a Second Language (EAL) program and we also offer after-school tutorials for specific subjects ensuring all students progress in their learning.
Rich co-curricular activities
Our school provides comprehensive academic subjects and rich co-curricular activities to develop well-rounded and socially skilled students.
These activities include our school production, debating, art and STEM clubs, public speaking competitions, community sports clubs, music, school sports, extra tutorial classes, camps, youth forums, community engagement, as well as interstate and international tours when travel restrictions allow.
