Bari (Italy)
Romanazzi Institute, Bari, Italy
The relationship with the Romanazzi Institute was initiated in 2003, when staff and students were invited by the Regional Government of Puglia to attend a conference in Melbourne, and Northcote staff and students invited to return. Since then seven exchange visits have been conducted, with the most recent in 2011. Northcote students travelling to Italy visit a number of historical sites, including Pompeii (at right).
Bari is a city in the south of Italy, on the coast of the Adriatic, with a population of about 1 million. It is the capital of Puglia province. Bari is best known in the English speaking world as the burial place of St. Nicholas, but it was historically a key seaport in southern Italy.
